An Evening and Day of Teachings and Practice: Meditation and the Spiritual Path in Mahamudra- The Teachings of Traleg Kyabgon Rinpoche IX

A perfect opportunity for new and experienced mediators to deepen their understanding and practice.

In Mahamudra, the state of enlightenment is not something that we have to attain, cultivate or develop. It is a state that we are already in – except although we are in this state, it is veiled from us; therefore, we are not cognisant of it. The reason why that is so is that our mind is filled with illusion, delusion and all kinds of confused mental states. This is caused by extreme agitation in the mind. When the mind is in a state of constant agitation, it is natural for it to be thrown into a deep state of confusion.
And where does this great agitation come from? It comes from two sources, according to Buddhist teachings…-
Traleg Kyabgon Rinpoche IX

At the Buddhist Summer School in 2005, Traleg Kyabgon Rinpoche IX provided an extensive background to his book Luminous Bliss: Self-realization through meditation. Rinpoche explains both shamatha and vipassana meditation in the context of cultivating the correct view, appreciating the difference between what we usually call “mind” and wisdom mind, and the importance of understanding how to interpret our meditative experiences.  Over these three audio teachings, Rinpoche emphasizes that meditation is “not practised purely as a mental discipline. It is a way of being, it is learning how to be in a novel way, a different way to what we are used to”. These teachings provide essential perspectives of practice for new and experienced meditators alike.
