  It is a common belief that Buddhism is mainly a path of meditation with the primary aim of working with the mind. However, Buddhism could be more accurately described as a path of trainings.  The Three Trainings incorporate the development of:

• discipline or ethical living, 
• meditation or concentration, 
• and wisdom 

These together reveal both the means and the profound aspiration of Buddhism – to actually transform the very way we live our lives.  The Three Trainings are the most valuable thing we can do now, no matter where we are on the spiritual path. In this course, you will learn:

• The connection between: meditation, ethical development, and study for self-transformation on the Buddhist path

• How to apply the three trainings in your life know matter where you are on the Buddhist path

  Khenpo Chonyi Rangdrol became a monk at the Thrangu Monastery Nepal at the age of six and in 1998 became the youngest Khenpo in the Monastery’s history. Khenpo-la was then appointed as a teacher at the Monastic College for two years. From 2003 to 2010, Khenpo-la served as the Principal of Shree Mangal Dvip School, and since 2011, Khenpo-la has served as Abbot of Thrangu Tara Abbey Nunnery. From 2014 to 2016, Khenpo-la was appointed Vice President of the Nepal Buddhist Federation, and is currently a senate member of Lumbini Buddhist University. In May 2022, Khenpo was appointed as the chairman (CEO) of Thrangu Monastery in Namo Buddha. The term khenpo (Tib. མཁན་པོ། mkhen po), or khenmo (in the feminine) is a degree for higher Buddhist studies given in Tibetan Buddhism. In the Nyingma, Kagyu, and Sakya traditions, the title is awarded usually after 13 years of intensive study after secondary school. It may roughly translate to either a bachelor’s degree or nowadays more likely to a degree in Buddhist Studies, equivalent to a PhD or MPhil. The degree is awarded to students who can publicly defend their erudition and mastery in at least five subjects of Indo-Tibetan Buddhism, namely Prajñāpāramitā, Madhyamaka, Pramāṇa, Abhidharma, and Vinaya. After successfully passing their examination they are entitled to serve as teachers of Buddhism.   When: Fridays 12 & 19 September Time: 7:30pm – 9:00pm Price: $45 for both sessions, $25 for a single session.
