New Special Extended Discussion Sessions on 14 May & 11 June
These sessions are for everyone and are an opportunity to come together to practice mindfulness meditation.
Whether you are new to meditation or an experienced meditator, regular meditation practice is encouraged in Buddhism. The weekly practice offers the opportunity to begin or renew your practice in a welcoming and supportive environment. With meditation instructions provided by Traleg Kyabgon Rinpoche IX, these gatherings provide a supportive space to reinforce our motivation by practising alongside others.
On Wednesday 14 May and Wednesday 11 June, the session will include a discussion and opportunity to ask questions with the meditation leader, followed by tea and time to connect with fellow meditators.
These evenings will run a little longer, finishing at approximately 7:15 PM.
Newcomers are extremely welcome! This series is by donation.
Meditation Quote by Traleg Kyabgon Rinpoche IX
To build insight into the human condition,
meditation is extremely important
because it gives us an opportunity to look into how our mind is operating,
how we make use of our emotions and relate to others,
and what variety of images we have of ourselves and other people.
As I mentioned, the process of self-deception is taking place continuously
but meditation gives us the space
to observe the processes of the mind almost in slow motion.
This is because outside of meditation,
our mind is so busy and so often in an agitated and distracted state
that it is difficult to observe what is going on in our head.
Meditation is different to thinking or brooding over an issue.
Constant languishing over an issue does not reveal anything.
Rather, it can make us even more caught up in the whole process of self-deception.
Through meditation, we try to become the observer of our own minds.
It is not to explain away our experiences
but to rest with the mind and
allowing the processes around self-deception and other delusions to be revealed.
Developing such insight and knowledge about how we deceive ourselves
can allow us to experience greater freedom and connection with our everyday experiences.
